The most ordinary leaf can communicate through cultures and art. It can serve as a symbol of nature, but also convey messages of globalisation, personal problems and taboos. Using the scan of a leaf, Indonesian artists Angki Purbandono approached contemporary art in order to send messages of similarity, difference and globalization, and to ask everyone - who are we really and how do we still belong to the natural order in times of apps, internet, network.
In a unique effort to expose children to contemporary Indonesian art, Mona Liem and Petra Tomljanovic, curators and art educators, will organize a two hours workshop in relation to the exhibition PRISMA Project in Multikulti Festival in Rheinfelden. Children will be given a unique opportunity to explore Purbandono's artwork "In the name of the leaf" within the context of the exhibition on Globalisation and Technology. Working throughout the gallery and the workshop area, children will make leaf printing, leaf pounding and natural colour extracting. Children will learn about the elements of contemporary art and are introduced to artists and world culture through hands-on art projects and interdisciplinary activities. For the workshop it is necessary to bring a clean white natural fabric (napkin, tea towel, T-shirt, tote bag etc) and leafs in different shapes as a material. The rest of the material for the workshop, as well as the expert guidance will be provided. more info: www.little-corner.weebly.com |
